When Famine Becomes a Setup for Destiny

ree

Not every famine is a punishment.

Some famines are invitations into God’s greater story.

In the opening verses of the Book of Ruth, a famine hits Bethlehem, the “House of Bread,” and drives Elimelech’s family into Moab. What seems like devastation is not the end of the story. It becomes the beginning of one of the greatest redemption narratives in Scripture.

Out of famine came Ruth.

Out of loss came loyalty.

Out of obscurity came destiny.

And through it all, the providence of God was silently and faithfully at work.

Famine seasons strip away what cannot go into the next chapter.

They realign our hearts, redirect our paths, and prepare us for blessings we could never orchestrate on our own.

If you find yourself walking through a famine season, whether emotional, relational, financial, or spiritual, know this:

God has not forgotten you.

He is setting the stage for something far greater than you have lost.

I have experienced this firsthand.

Years ago, while working as a Sales Advisor for a major cosmetic brand, I was reshuffled from the beauty counter, a place I loved and thrived in, and reassigned to the pharmacy department. It made no sense to me at the time. I had no desire to work at a pharmacy counter, and it did not fit my vibrant, fashion-forward personality. However, needing the job to provide for my young children, I complied, even though it felt like a loss.

I could not see then how God’s providence was already unfolding. Within a short time, I became a pharmacy dispenser, then a team supervisor, and eventually a pharmacy manager, a role that equipped me with the leadership, resilience, and experience that prepared me for the work I am called to today.

At the time, it felt like being displaced. Now I see it was divine positioning.

God saw further than I ever could.

What seemed like a famine was setting me up for a future I could not yet imagine.

At Rise and Reclaim, we believe in honouring the waiting seasons.

We trust that God’s hand is still moving even when His plan is hidden.

We rise not out of personal vindication.

We reclaim not in anger.

We move forward as witnesses to the faithfulness of God.

Your famine is not your finish line.

It is your field of preparation.

The same God who redeemed Ruth’s story is redeeming yours even now.

Closing Prayer:

Father, I thank You that no season of famine is wasted in Your hands.

You prepare us for something greater even when we cannot see it.

Teach us to trust Your providence and to walk forward with courage and hope.

May every dry place become fertile ground for Your promises.

In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
