What Peace we often forfeit!

ree

In a world that often feels unstable, there’s a deep comfort in this simple truth: God is present. Not occasionally, not when we have “earned” His attention, but always.

“God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.” Psalm 46:1 (NIV)

Today, I was reminded that God’s justice is real, His timing is perfect, and His nearness is constant. Yet how often do we carry unnecessary burdens simply because we haven’t brought them to Him?

As the old hymn puts it:

“Oh, what peace we often forfeit, oh what needless pain we bear,

All because we do not carry everything to God in prayer.”

It’s not that God doesn’t know what we need; prayer invites Him to meet our needs. It reorients our hearts to trust, to listen, and to rest in His care.

Sometimes I wonder: what peace have I missed today simply because I didn’t pause to pray?

Not a polished prayer. Not a long-winded one. Just a moment of surrender:

“Lord, I can’t carry this alone. Help me.”

God is not indifferent to our struggles. He is a refuge for those who trust in Him. He invites us to carry everything to Him in prayer, not just what feels “appropriate” or “spiritual.”

Today, I’m choosing to lay it all down again.

Not because I’m strong, but because He is.

Prayer:

Lord, thank You that You are my ever-present help, even when I forget to ask. Teach me to come to You quickly, honestly, and fully. Please help me not to carry what you’ve already offered to take. Thank you for being near in Jesus' name, Amen.

Question for Reflection:

What’s one thing you’ve been trying to carry alone? What would it look like to hand it to God in prayer today?
