Trust in the Lord with All Your Heart

Reflection (shared by Sis. Kunbi)

Hi there. Today, I am reading from Proverbs chapter three, from verse five to six, which says:

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.”

Now, that’s a biggie, isn’t it? Trust in the Lord with all your heart. Not some of it. Not the Sunday morning bit. Not just when we’re desperate and out of options. Nope! Your entire heart.

And I’ll be honest, that can be hard. I like to figure things out. I like my plans. I like my to-do list. I like my spreadsheets. I like my “this is how life should go” map. I want to know everything. And maybe you’re the same.

But then this verse gently reminds us, don’t lean too hard on what you think you know. Because let’s be real, our understanding is teeny, teeny tiny compared to God’s. We see a corner of the puzzle. He sees the whole picture.

Sometimes I’ve looked back at moments where I was convinced, this is the way, this is the thing. And then I later thought, whoa, I dodged a bullet there. And I’m grateful that God didn’t let me run too far down that road.

And here’s the invitation: “In all your ways, acknowledge him.”

It’s not just about a morning prayer and then “see you tomorrow, God.” It’s about us weaving him into our day and through every life situation. Almost like saying, “Okay Lord, I see You. Come into this moment with me.” And it’s these acknowledgements that keep our hearts tuned to his presence.

And then comes a promise, and this bit, this bit gets me every time: “He will make straight your paths.”

It’s not always easy, not quick, but straight. He takes all of our wobbly steps, and he says, “Don’t worry. I’ll line this up for you.” That’s the Father's heart of God, guiding, correcting, making a way where we couldn’t see one.

So maybe for you today, there’s something that feels heavy or confusing. A decision, a waiting season, a “what on earth do I do with this” moment. Can I just remind you that you don’t need to have it all figured out? You don’t need to white-knuckle your way through.

You can trust God with your whole heart. And as you do, he will direct you. Take that next step with him. One step. That’s all he’s asking. And trust that he’s always gone ahead to make the path straight.

God bless you.
