Pursue Wisdom and Insight

ree

Reflection (shared by Sister Kunbi)

Hi there. Welcome to Day Four of Wisdom September. Today, I’m reading from Proverbs 4:7:

“The beginning of wisdom is this: Get wisdom, and whatever you get, get insight.”

This verse is simple, yet so profound. We are reminded that wisdom is not something we stumble into by accident, but something we must actively pursue. The first step to becoming wise is to recognise our need for wisdom, and then to seek it intentionally.

But notice what the passage adds: we are also told to gain insight. Wisdom is knowing what is right, what aligns with God’s will. Insight is the deeper understanding of how to apply that wisdom in real-life situations.

Think about it. We live in a world overflowing with information. Answers are just a click away, Doctor Google, GPT, AI, all of it. But information alone doesn’t guide us through life’s complexities. What we truly need is God’s wisdom and the insight to apply it in the right way, at the right time, with the right spirit.

The book of James reminds us that if anyone lacks wisdom, we should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault. That means wisdom isn’t reserved for the highly educated or the elite. It’s available to anyone who humbly asks and earnestly seeks it. And the pursuit of wisdom begins with reverence for God, recognising Him as the ultimate source of all truth.

So the question is: are we intentionally seeking wisdom and insight, or are we letting life just happen to us? Maybe for you, the pursuit of wisdom looks like carving out time in Scripture. Maybe it’s listening more carefully before speaking, or seeking the counsel of godly friends. Maybe it’s slowing down long enough to let God’s Spirit guide your decisions, rather than rushing ahead on your own.

Whatever it looks like, today’s invitation is clear: start with wisdom, pursue insight, and let them shape your path.

A Prayer

Lord, I pray that You would give us a hunger for true wisdom and a heart that longs for insight. Teach us to see life through Your eyes and to apply Your truth with grace and love. For everyone listening right now, Lord, I pray You would meet them in their questions, guide them in their decisions, and fill them with Your Spirit of wisdom. May our lives reflect not just knowledge, but the beauty of Your truth lived out. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

God bless you.
