On What Do You Rest This Trust of Yours?

It’s one thing to say, “I trust God.”
But trust isn’t proven in our declarations; it’s revealed in our decisions.
When everything is still uncertain. When the outcome hasn’t changed. When the wait feels unbearable.
And when life feels like it’s collapsing inward and hope is barely a whisper, trust can feel like a mountain.
But even then, God invites us to rest our trust not on what we see, but on who He is.
In Isaiah 36, King Hezekiah faced an army that mocked his trust in God.
The enemy’s messenger questioned him, asking:
“You say you have counsel and might for war, but speak only empty words. On whom are you depending, that you rebel against me?” Isaiah 36:5 (NIV)
It’s the same question life still throws at us today:
On what do you rest this trust of yours?
So let me ask gently:
On what do you rest this trust of yours?
Is it answered prayers?
Is it on doors that open quickly?
Or is it on the unchanging nature of a faithful God, even when nothing else makes sense?
Genuine trust isn’t passive. It’s a quiet, active resting.
It’s what holds us when the questions grow louder than the answers.
The anchor doesn’t need to see land to believe it’s there.
You don’t have to feel strong to trust. You don’t have to understand it all.
You need something-or someone-who is trustworthy enough to rest that trust on.
And I’ve found that only one can carry it without letting it drop.
Reflection
What have you been leaning your trust on lately?
What cracks have shown up in that foundation?
What would it look like to rest your trust on God’s character instead of your outcomes?
Prayer
God, I want to trust You in words and how I live, wait, and hope.
Please show me where I’ve rested my faith on things that shift and shake.
Teach me how to rest my trust in You.
Amen.
