Obedience Positions Us for Overflow

There’s something about obedience that doesn’t always make sense at first. It rarely feels convenient, and it often stretches us beyond what we think we can handle. But when we obey the voice of God, we step into a flow of abundance that our own efforts could never produce.
I’m reminded of the story in Luke 5. The disciples had spent an entire night fishing with nothing to show for it. Imagine the exhaustion, the frustration, the feeling of defeat. Yet when Jesus told them to cast their nets again, they chose to obey. What happened next was astonishing; such a large number of fish swam into those nets that they began to break.
That’s the beauty of obedience. It turns emptiness into overflow. It transforms failure into testimony.
As August draws to a close, I can’t help but reflect on how God has crowned these days with His goodness.
.
Psalm 65:11 says:
“You crown the year with Your bounty, and Your carts overflow with abundance.”
That has been my experience in Morning Dew. What began as a reluctant “Lord, please leave me alone” has become a journey of refreshing. Stepping out in obedience has not only transformed my life but reminded me daily that God is faithful to fill what we place in His hands.
And here’s what I know: God is not finished with August yet. These final days still carry promises, still hold testimonies, and still crown us with His bounty.
Looking forward, my spirit is stirring with anticipation for September. I’m calling it Wisdom September, a 30-day journey through the book of Proverbs. If Morning Dew has been about refreshing, then September will be about sharpening. Wisdom for the days ahead.
Questions to ponder on
• Where has obedience felt inconvenient for you recently?
• Can you look back and see how God turned empty nets into abundance in your life?
• What “nets” might He be asking you to cast again, even if it feels pointless?
Prayer
Abba Father! Thank you for the reminder that obedience opens the door to abundance. Just as You filled the disciples’ nets, fill the empty spaces in my life with Your goodness. Crown these final days of August with Your bounty and prepare me for a new season of wisdom. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
