Kept for You: When God Sets the Table

Have you ever felt like what you hoped for passed you by?
Has too much time gone by, or too many wrong turns have been taken?
But what if what God has for you hasn’t been lost, only kept?
Set aside. Reserved. Waiting for the hour He appointed.
In 1 Samuel 9:24, we read a quiet moment of revelation. Saul arrives after a long, frustrating search for his father’s missing donkeys. Unbeknownst to him, God had already spoken to the prophet Samuel. A portion of food had been set aside, and a seat had been prepared. And Samuel says:
“See what is kept is set before you. Eat, because it was kept for you until the appointed hour…”
Saul wasn’t chasing greatness. He wasn’t even seeking God. He was on an ordinary errand, but God was orchestrating something greater.
The portion was not only prepared, it was preserved. Not because Saul earned it, but because God had a purpose.
That’s the deeper beauty.
Sometimes we worry that our mistakes, delays, or detours have cancelled our place at the table. But God doesn’t operate by scarcity or accident.
What’s yours isn’t lost. It’s kept.
This is for the woman who feels behind. For the one who thinks she missed her moment.
God’s timing is not rushed. His table is not crowded.
And what’s kept for you will be set before you, when the hour comes.
Not too soon. Not too late. Appointed.
Reflection
- What dreams or callings have you assumed are no longer available?
- Could it be they’re simply waiting for the right time?
- How can you live with trust in the God who keeps things for you?
Prayer
Abba Father! Thank you for divine timing.
Thank you that what is mine cannot be missed, stolen, or ruined, because you’re the one who keeps it.
Prepare my heart to sit at the table You’ve already prepared. Let me receive what you’ve kept with humility, boldness, and joy.
In Jesus' name. Amen.
