If it had Not Been the Lord

Some mornings, a song gets stuck in your spirit and refuses to let go.
Today, for me, it was this one:
“Your grace and mercy brought me through… I’m living this moment because of You…”
It’s not just a melody. It’s my testimony.
Psalm 124 begins the same way:
“If the Lord had not been on our side, let Israel say if the Lord had not been on our side when people attacked us, they would have swallowed us alive… Our help is in the name of the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.”
David is looking back at moments where survival didn’t make sense. Times when the odds were stacked, when the enemy was real, and when escape wasn’t in human strength. And his conclusion is simple: If it weren’t for the Lord, I wouldn’t be here.
That’s the power of grace and mercy.
Grace is God giving us what we don’t deserve, the opportunities, favour, and second chances.
Mercy is when God holds back the judgment we deserve, protecting, from the things that could have destroyed us.
When we pause long enough to remember what He’s brought us through, gratitude rises naturally. The storm that could have taken you out became the testimony that lifts you.
Today, whether you are in the middle of a challenge or walking in the joy of victory, declare this truth over yourself:
I am here because of God’s grace and mercy.
Prayer:
Abba, thank You that You have been on our side through every battle. Your grace and mercy have carried us to this moment, and our help will always be in Your name. You have been good in all your ways to us, and indeed we are grateful, help us not to forget how far you have brought us from and the love that you continually lavish on us, in Jesus' name, Amen.
