Forsake Foolishness & Live

ree

Scripture Reading

“Forsake the foolish and live, and go in the way of understanding… The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.” Proverbs 9:6, 10

Today’s reflection, shared by Apostle Wendell Bates, takes us into Proverbs 9. This chapter reminds us that life and understanding are found when we turn away from foolishness and pursue the wisdom of God.

Apostle Wendell tied two verses together, Proverbs 9:6 and 9:10, showing that forsaking foolishness is inseparable from fearing the Lord. Foolishness rejects God’s wisdom, leading to spiritual blindness, corruption, and sin. But fearing the Lord opens the way to wisdom and holy understanding.

He asked us a simple but searching question: Will you be a leader in the Spirit or a follower of the flesh? Foolishness entices us to follow the flesh, but wisdom calls us to be Spirit-led.

Drawing from Matthew 6:33, Apostle Wendell reminded us that seeking first the kingdom of God aligns us with His righteousness and fills us with His wisdom. The result is safety in the one place where chaos, storms, and folly cannot reach us, the infallible will of God.

The safest place to be is not in a house, a job, or even the arms of another. The safest place is in God’s will. There, we encounter His love, mercy, peace, and protection.

Takeaway

To forsake foolishness is to live. To fear the Lord is to become wise. And to walk in God’s will is to find the safest place of all.

Prayer

Dear Lord, help us to forsake foolishness and pursue Your wisdom. Teach us to fear You rightly, that we may live in understanding. Keep us safe in Your infallible will, where Your love and peace surround us. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
