Proverbs 10:27
Welcome to Day 10 of Wisdom September. Today’s reflection is shared by Pastor Chinake, drawing from Proverbs chapter 10, the wise sayings of Solomon. This chapter reminds us that every action has a consequence, and true wisdom stems from diligence, careful speech, and reverence for the Lord.
One of the key reminders from this chapter is that every action has a result. In verse 4, we read, “Idle hands make one poor, but diligent hands bring riches.” Laziness and procrastination lead to a lack of achievement, while diligence and persistence bring rewards. We cannot reap where we have not sown. Our choices, our discipline, and our effort all carry consequences.
Another verse that stands out is verse 19: “When words are many, sin is not absent, but he who holds his tongue is wise.” Words have power. They can open doors or close them. They can heal or they can hurt. We are reminded here to guard our lips, to avoid idle speech, and to choose words that bring life. Sometimes wisdom is found in silence.
Finally, verse 27 says: “The fear of the Lord prolongs life, but the years of the wicked are cut short.” Living with reverence and obedience to God leads us to wisdom, peace of mind, and often a longer, more fulfilling life. Rejecting God’s ways, on the other hand, brings destruction and loss.
Reflection
Proverbs 10 teaches us the principle of cause and effect: diligence brings blessing, wise speech preserves us, and reverence for the Lord leads to life. May we choose each day to work with diligence, to guard our words, and to walk in godly reverence.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, help us to live wisely. May our hands be diligent, our words be few but filled with grace, and our hearts be reverent before You. Teach us to walk in the way of wisdom all our days. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
