Scripture Reading:
“The Lord detests those whose hearts are perverse, but He delights in those whose ways are blameless.” Proverbs 11:20
“The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life, and the one who is wise saves lives.”
Proverbs 11:30
Today’s verses remind us that God delights in those who walk blamelessly, and that the fruit of the righteous blesses others like a tree of life. And then comes this powerful statement: “The one who is wise saves lives.”
Walking Blamelessly
Proverbs 11:20 says, “The Lord detests those whose hearts are perverse, but He delights in those whose ways are blameless.”
To walk blamelessly doesn’t mean to live perfectly without mistakes. It means walking sincerely, wholeheartedly, and with integrity before God. In Genesis 17:1, God told Abram: “I am Almighty God; walk before Me and be blameless.” Abram wasn’t perfect, but God wanted him to be wholehearted and faithful.
David prayed in Psalm 86:11: “Give me an undivided heart, that I may fear Your name.” A blameless life is about an undivided heart fully yielded to God.
The Fruit of the Righteous
Verse 30 says, “The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life.”
Under the new covenant, our righteousness comes not from ourselves but from Christ. Romans 3:22 reminds us: “This righteousness is given through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe.” And 2 Corinthians 5:21 says, “God made Him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in Him we might become the righteousness of God.”
Our own righteousness is like filthy rags, but when we receive Christ’s righteousness, we are made right before God. That righteousness produces fruit. Jesus said in John 15:5, “I am the vine, you are the branches. If you remain in Me and I in you, you will bear much fruit.”
That fruit is seen in Galatians 5:22-23: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. This is the “tree of life”, a life that nourishes and blesses others.
Wise Lives Save Lives
The second part of verse 30 says, “the one who is wise saves lives.”
Wisdom is not just for us; it’s meant to point others to God. A wise person lives in such a way that others are drawn to Christ. A wise person speaks life-giving words.
Proverbs 18:21 tells us: “The tongue has the power of life and death.”
This challenges us: in our workplaces, families, and friendships, are we speaking life or death? Are we blessing, encouraging, and building up or tearing down?
Wisdom also helps rescue people from destructive paths. James 5:20 says, “Whoever turns a sinner from the error of their way will save them from death and cover over a multitude of sins.”
Ultimately, the wisest thing we can do is lead others to Jesus, the true source of eternal life. Daniel 12:3 declares: “Those who are wise will shine like the brightness of the heavens, and those who lead many to righteousness, like the stars forever and ever.”
Prayer
Almighty Father, give us undivided hearts to walk blamelessly before You. Thank You for making us righteous through Christ. May our lives bear fruit that refreshes others, and may our words and choices be life-giving. Let our wisdom be used to save lives and win souls for Your kingdom. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
