A Celebration of a Lifetime

This week, my heart is overflowing with gratitude and joy.
Our mum turned 90 years old, and what a mega success her birthday celebration was! Friends and family came from far and near to join us in church. The entire service was dedicated to honouring her, something truly special, as birthdays are usually just mentioned at the end of the service. But this time, the whole day was set aside to celebrate a woman whose life has been a living testimony of God’s faithfulness.
One of the most touching moments was when my daughter, her granddaughter, gave a heartfelt speech. She said a song came to mind:
“My lifetime, I will give God my lifetime.
When I give God my lifetime, He will take care of me.
He will never, never let me die.
I will give God my lifetime.”
As she shared those words, I was deeply moved. That song perfectly describes my mum’s life, a life fully given to God. She has always been faithful, generous, and kind, a true giver at heart. Her heart for others reflects God’s love in every way.
“Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her:
‘Many women do noble things, but you surpass them all.’”

At 90, she continues to inspire us with her unwavering faith and gentle strength.
“Even to your old age and grey hairs, I am He, I am He who will sustain you.
I have made you and I will carry you; I will sustain you and I will rescue you.”

It was such a blessing to see four generations gathered in one place, her children, grandchildren, and even a great-grandchild, all standing to honour her. What a testimony of God’s goodness and grace through the years!
“The righteous will flourish like a palm tree… they will still bear fruit in old age,
they will stay fresh and green, proclaiming, ‘The Lord is upright.’”

As I reflect on her 90 years, I am reminded that when we truly give our lifetime to God, He takes care of every detail. My mum’s life is living proof of that promise.

A Prayer of Gratitude
Heavenly Father, thank You for the precious gift of life and for blessing our family with the example of a faithful mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Thank You for sustaining her through ninety beautiful years of love, service, and devotion to You. May her legacy of faith continue through the generations, and may we, too, give You our lifetimes, trusting that You will take care of us, now and forever. Amen.
