4 Choices That Can Destroy Your Future | Wisdom September Day 20

ree

Proverbs 20 is filled with practical warnings that apply to our everyday lives. In today’s reflection, Pastor Chinake draws out four choices that can quietly destroy your future if left unchecked.

“Wine is a mocker and beer a brawler; whoever is led astray by them is not wise.”

Proverbs 20:1

1. Losing Self-Control (v1)

“Wine is a mocker and strong drink a brawler.”

Addiction and excess strip us of self-control. Whether it’s alcohol, habits, or hidden compromises, when we’re led astray, we lose clarity and open the door to sin. But God can set us free when we call on Him.

2. Laziness (v4, v13)

“Sluggards do not plough in season… Do not love sleep or you will grow poor.”

Wisdom means recognising the right season to work, sow, and harvest. Laziness and procrastination rob us of opportunities, but diligence brings fruit in due time.

3. Gossip (v19)

“A gossip betrays a confidence; so avoid anyone who talks too much.”

Loose lips destroy trust and damage relationships. If gossip is your struggle, bring it before the Lord. His Spirit can help us guard our tongues and build instead of tearing down.

4. Seeking Revenge (v22)

“Do not say, ‘I’ll pay you back for this wrong!’ Wait for the Lord, and he will avenge you.”

Revenge feels good for a moment, but it can ruin your peace, testimony, and even your life. God calls us to release vengeance into His hands; He alone is just.

These four traps - lack of self-control, laziness, gossip, and revenge may seem small, but Proverbs shows us they can ruin our destiny. The good news is that God’s Spirit empowers us to live differently: with wisdom, diligence, self-control, and forgiveness.

Prayer

Dear Lord, help me to avoid the traps of self-indulgence, laziness, gossip, and revenge. Teach me to walk in wisdom, discipline, and peace, so that my future will be secure in You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

A heartfelt thank you to Pastor Chinake for sharing today’s powerful reflection with us. May the Lord continue to bless and use him for His glory.
